The first race track selected for development within the game is Watkins Glen International. Situated in the heart of New York, it is a high speed race track long known in the world as the home of the Formula One United States Grand Prix. While the US Grand Prix has found a new home, "The Glen" continues hosting various road racing events including the World Sportscar Championship, Trans-Am, Can-Am, NASCAR Cup Series, the International Motor Sports Association and the IndyCar Series.
Considering the close proximity to our RIT campus, the Glen was the ideal choice for a race to explore and develop in our game.
The development of this race track started of with getting all the Open Street Map data for it via Mapbox. The availability of OSM curves for the entire race track made the task of procedural generation for all track geometry a lot easier. With the terrain data available, both these data sets were combined to obtain the racetrack set up in a familiar surrounding.
The following images lay out the process of generating the required base assets within Houdini and then porting them over to Unity and Falcon engine for further development.

Stay tuned for more updates on the Glen as well continue setting up the level.
